Milkweed the Martyr

16.00

Limited print. 5 x 5 matted photograph, numbered signed by Erika Galentin. Acid free matting. Also comes with the following description:

Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) has become famous for being one of many heroes in the plight of the monarch butterflies. However, not only is it a host plant for monarch caterpillars, it is a nectar source for so many insects. It is also a hunting ground for predatory bugs looking to catch their next meal.

Sitting and watching the milkweed, and all the life about it is fascinating. By the end of the season this one will be missing most of its leaves, scarred and tattered from giving itself over to the ecosystem and all its critters. It will still be standing, however, and even setting seed for the next generation of life-givers and life-takers.
